The Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Albino, received in an audience the new director of the World Bank (WB) for the Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros and Seychelles division, Fily Sissoko, in order to outline action strategies for the coming years.
The visit takes place within the framework of the cooperation relations that the Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries sector has with the WB, and following the preparation of new agreements that will restructure and elevate the strategic partnership between the two institutions, in sustainable management of natural resources and development.
During the meeting, the need to inject greater dynamism into the existing relationship was agreed upon, with Roberto Albino reinforcing his intention to broaden the scope of cooperation to structuring projects in the areas of food production, forest industrialization, territorial and environmental development.
It should be noted that the World Bank recently approved funding of 201 million dollars (12.8 billion meticais) to strengthen the country’s health system response to natural disasters and climate change.
“The World Bank approved the Resilience Project to Protect Lives and Strengthen Emergency Response in Mozambique,” reads the statement, which also highlights support for the development of climate-adapted infrastructure and the preparation of emergency plans, recognizing the increasing health risks due to climate change.
