The Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) announced this Wednesday (June 18) a new fuel price reduction, effective Thursday (June 19).
According to a statement from the agency, the price of petrol drops from 85.82 to 83.57 meticais per litre, a decrease of 2.62%, while diesel sees a steeper reduction, falling from 86.79 to 79.88 meticais per litre, equivalent to a 7.96% drop.
Kerosene also decreases, going from 69.35 to 66.86 meticais per litre, and compressed natural gas (CNG) drops from 43.40 to 41.11 meticais per litre equivalent. The price of cooking gas remains unchanged at 86.05 meticais per kilogram.
This update comes four months after the first price cut announced on February 19, when ARENE already revised fuel prices downward, justifying the move with a decrease in international acquisition costs and the need to restore household purchasing power.
At the time, President Daniel Chapo affirmed that the government was committed to implementing measures to contain fuel prices and mitigate their impact on household budgets. ARENE emphasizes that the new prices apply at fuel stations located in areas with distribution terminals, namely Maputo, Matola, Beira, Nacala, and Pemba, “reflecting a commitment to adjusting prices transparently and in line with global market fluctuations.”
This series of adjustments forms part of the 77 measures defined by the Executive for the first 100 days of the 2025–2029 five-year term, focusing on alleviating the cost of living and strengthening the resilience of the national economy.
