Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday warned against the rise of a “Cold War mentality” and the risks of intimidation in international relations.
The statements by the Chinese leader were made during the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, held in Tianjin, northern China.
Xi stated that nations must oppose the Cold War mindset and bloc confrontation, as well as intimidation.
In his view, there should be a new world order that is “just and orderly,” accompanied by a more equitable model of international governance, at a time when armed conflicts and trade disputes are on the rise.
Addressing leaders such as Vladimir Putin of Russia, Narendra Modi of India, and Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, Xi criticized bloc confrontation policies and reaffirmed the central role of the World Trade Organization as the hub of global trade.
As a concrete gesture, Xi announced financial aid of €239 million to the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Although not military in nature, the organization is seen by analysts as a counterbalance to the influence of NATO and the United States in the Eurasian context and as more representative of Global South interests.
