The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Monday, the 6th, that since February 28, Lebanon has recorded 92 attacks on health facilities, vehicles, and medical professionals, resulting in 53 deaths and 137 injuries.
“These acts cannot become the new normal,” stated WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on his account on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), while condemning the most recent attack near Rafik Hariri University Hospital, Lebanon’s largest public medical center, which left four dead and 39 injured.
The WHO warned that, by the end of March, the average was two attacks per day, with five incidents on March 28 alone, targeting facilities in Kfar Tibnit, Ghandouriyeh, Zawtar Al Gharbiyeh, Kfar Dajal, and Jezzine, resulting in a total of nine deaths.
“As Israel expands its military operations, I call on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of health facilities, medical professionals, and patients,” added the WHO Director-General.
