U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iran on Thursday (9) to “stop immediately” if it is charging tolls to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, after criticizing conservative media outlets and commentators who questioned the U.S. military operation in the region.
“There are reports that Iran is charging fees to oil tankers crossing the Strait of Hormuz—they better not be doing that, and if they are, they better stop right now!” Trump posted on the social media platform Truth on the second day of the fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Tehran.
“Iran is acting very poorly—some would say dishonorably—in allowing oil to pass through Hormuz. That is not the deal we have!” Trump stated in a second message a few minutes later.
Following threats of annihilation made by Donald Trump, Iran agreed this week to a fragile two-week ceasefire with the United States, and the parties have scheduled negotiations in Pakistan in the coming days.
Before Thursday’s warning to Tehran, Trump posted a series of criticisms of media outlets and commentators who questioned his declaration of victory over the Islamic Republic, such as the Wall Street Journal.
“The Wall Street Journal, one of the worst and most inaccurate editorial boards in the world, claimed that I declared a premature victory in Iran. In reality, it is a victory, and there is nothing ‘premature’ about it!” Trump stated on Truth Social, shortly after taking aim at influential conservative commentators in another post.
