Middle East: Iran Does Not Plan to Send Delegation to Pakistan for New Round of Talks

Iran does not plan to send a delegation to the new round of talks with the United States (U.S.) in Pakistan as long as the maritime blockade imposed by Washington against Iranian ports remains in place, according to the Tasnim news agency.

According to sources cited by the agency controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, “there will be no negotiations as long as the U.S. maritime blockade against Iranian ports continues.”

The agency emphasized, however, that the exchange of messages between Iran and the United States through Pakistani mediation has continued in recent days, following the first round of negotiations held last weekend in Islamabad, which ended without an agreement—according to Tehran—due to the demands and ambitions of the U.S. side.

This information comes after U.S. President Donald Trump said that U.S. negotiators will be in Pakistan on Monday (the 20th) to begin talks with Iran, according to a post on his social media.

“My representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan—they’ll be there Monday night for negotiations,” he wrote.

“I hope they accept it because, if they don’t, the U.S. will destroy all power plants and bridges in Iran,” the U.S. leader threatened.

The White House has meanwhile announced that U.S. Vice President JD Vance will lead the U.S. delegation in the negotiations in Pakistan.

Iran denounced the U.S. naval blockade as “illegal and criminal.”

The accusation comes after Tehran reimposed “strict control” over the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, blocking the passage of ships in response to the U.S. blockade—just one day after announcing the reopening of this waterway, through which 20% of the world’s oil passes.
