The President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, left his country this Tuesday for state visits to Mozambique and Angola to reinforce bilateral relations and cooperation within the scope of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), the presidency of Timor-Leste announced.
According to the same source, José Ramos-Horta will be in Mozambique between Wednesday and Sunday, and plans to meet his counterpart, Filipe Nyusi, and the president of the Mozambican parliament, Esperança Bias.
During his stay in Maputo, the Nobel Peace Prize winner will also lay a wreath in Heroes Square, receive the key to the city, give a lecture at Eduardo Mondlane University on “Timor-Leste, the Region and the World” and visit the CPLP Strategic Analysis Centre.
From Mozambique, José Ramos-Horta continues his journey to Angola, where he will stay from the 8th to 10th of July.
In Luanda, the Timorese head of state will meet President João Lourenço, vice-president Esperança da Costa and the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.
The program also includes participation in a ceremony at the new facilities of the Timor-Leste embassy in Luanda and a lecture at the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy.
“These state visits highlight Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening its international relations and fostering cooperation within the CPLP,” says the Timorese presidency in a statement.
In the statement, José Ramos-Horta highlights that he expects from the visits “productive discussions” on economic cooperation, cultural exchange and regional security and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
