CPLP: President of Cape Verde Stock Exchange to Lead Executive Secretariat

Cape Verdean Miguel Monteiro, current president of the Cape Verde Stock Exchange, has been appointed Director-General of the Executive Secretariat of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), following his victory in an international competition organized by the organization, according to Lusa.

The information was confirmed by Miguel Monteiro himself through a post on his official Facebook account, in which he emphasized the importance of Cape Verdean representation in multilateral structures.

“Although I will now be serving the CPLP, I believe it is essential that more Cape Verdeans take on responsibilities in multilateral institutions and contribute to strengthening our presence in the world,” wrote the new head of the Lusophone organization.

The selection followed a process that began in November 2025, with applications closing on December 9. Miguel Monteiro succeeds São Toméan Armindo Brito Fernandes, who had held the position since February 2020.

In addition to leading the Cape Verdean stock exchange, a role he has held since March 2021, the new Director-General has held political positions as a national deputy and Secretary of the Board of the National Assembly of Cape Verde, roles he assumed in 2011.

The CPLP is composed of nine member states: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.
