The Community of the Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) pledged to bring into operation the mobility agreement as soon as possible.
The intention was expressed on Monday by its Executive Secretary, Zacarias da Costa, who is in Cabo Verde attending the Inauguration of the elected President, José Maria Neves, on Tuesday.
The official told the press that under the statutes of the organisation deposit of instruments by three member States is sufficient for the agreement to come into force.
“Only Cabo Verde has so far deposited the instrument”, said Zacarias da Costa, who hopes other States follow suit.
Among the member countries, Sao Tome and Principe is quoted as having expressed its will to complete the process, lacking only the sending of the instrument for the deposit in the CPLP headquarters.
As for Angola, he added, “I know that the agreement is already in the Council of Ministers. I think that the short section will go to the National Assembly to be later appreciated and ratified”.
The Mobility Agreement which was signed last July in Luanda stipulates that all the national citizens of the State members can request CPLP residence visa.
CPLP comprises Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.
