The value exported by Portuguese-speaking markets to the territory stood at 1.38 billion patacas (164.1 million euros) in 2024, down 3.5 per cent on the previous year, according to Macau’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).
The figure recorded in 2023 – 1.43 billion patacas (170 million euros) – was the highest since DSEC began collecting data on foreign trade in 1998.
Most of Macau’s trade with Portuguese-speaking countries in 2024 came from Brazil, worth 1.06 billion patacas (126 million euros), 3.6 per cent less than the previous year.
Macau also bought goods worth 301.4 million patacas (35.8 million euros) from Portugal, 3.3 per cent less than in 2023.
Also according to official figures, the bloc of Portuguese-speaking countries bought goods worth 4.97 million patacas (546,000 euros) from Macau in the month under review, 648 per cent more than in 2023 (664,000 patacas, equivalent to around 79,000 euros).
Exports of goods by Macau totalled 13.49 billion patacas (1.6 billion euros) in 2024, down 1.1 percent year on year, while the value of imported goods was 128.67 billion patacas (15.29 billion euros), down 9 percent year on year, DSEC said.
Macau’s trade deficit stood at 115.2 billion patacas (13.7 billion euros), down 10 per cent on 2023.
