On Thursday 23 May in Maputo, Chinese and Mozambican businesspeople expressed their intention to strengthen cooperation in the areas of agriculture, mining and transport, through investment projects that provide ‘mutual benefit’, as reported by the Lusa news agency.
‘We have been working with China mainly on the economic diplomacy framework initiative,’ said Agostinho Vuma, president of the Mozambican Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), during a meeting with representatives of the Chinese business community in Maputo.
According to Lusa, the CTA president pointed out that Chinese direct investment has been crucial in creating several jobs in Mozambican President.
‘China is a country that, over the last 20 years, has maintained a leading position as a business partner. We have hundreds of companies that want to invest in Mozambique,’ emphasised Cui Zhi, a representative of the Chinese business delegation, during the meeting.
Exports from Portuguese-speaking countries to China recorded their best start to the year ever, reaching 2.2 billion meticals (35 billion dollars) in the first quarter of 2024.
