Unitel Shares Drop Nearly 20% Below IPO Price on Bodiva

Shares in Angolan telecoms operator Unitel fell nearly 20% on the country's stock exchange on Thursday, trading at 9.48 euros below their admission price on the same day the company announced the restoration of services following a cyberattack.

In afternoon trading, the operator's shares were down 19.31%, at 28.92 euros per share — below the admission price of 38.41 euros — according to data from Angola's Debt and Securities Exchange, Bodiva, as analysed by Lusa.

The decline represents a loss of 9.48 euros per share relative to the admission price and comes after the stock surged 24.88% on its debut session on 29 July, despite network disruptions caused by the cyberattack.

Bodiva data also showed that Unitel shares were the most actively traded of the session, with 570 transactions involving 20,135 shares and a total value in excess of 595,800 euros.

The share decline coincided with Unitel's announcement that services affected by last week's cyberattack had been fully restored, with the company stating that voice communications, mobile data, and internet access had been recovered following several days of technical intervention.

Unitel made its Bodiva debut on 29 July, becoming the first telecoms operator to list on the Angolan exchange under the country's privatisation programme, Propriv, through the dispersal of a 15% stake in the company's share capital.
