TAAG – Linhas Aéreas de Angola – announced on Wednesday, 9 September, that it will assume exclusive control over ticket sales to the province of Cabinda, in a move designed to curb price speculation and tighten control over seat availability.
From 15 September, the Angolan national carrier will be the sole seller of tickets on the Luanda-Cabinda-Luanda route, according to a statement published on its official channels.
TAAG said the new commercial model is intended to restore normality and ensure greater control and transparency in the sale of tickets to Cabinda.
Among the problems identified by the airline were instances of commercial intermediation that distorted the sales process, fuelled ticket price speculation, and deviated from the company's established commercial procedures.
"In parallel, the measure allows TAAG to adopt a more appropriate commercial management model, reinforcing control over seat availability, transparency in sales, and passengers' access to the official fares set by the company," the statement read.
TAAG stressed that air operations between Luanda and Cabinda remain unchanged, with current flight frequencies and applicable fares staying the same.
The airline noted that the round-trip economy class fare between the two cities is subsidised, with the ticket price fixed at 29,717 kwanzas (€27.83).
Passengers on this route have complained for years about price speculation, which TAAG attributes to intermediaries hoarding tickets through the airline's official sales channels.
The situation has driven some passengers to seek tickets through parallel schemes, in some cases paying more than double the official fare.
Mobility to Cabinda — a province with no direct land connection to the rest of Angolan national territory — depends on air and maritime links.
