TAAG Averts Strike After Resuming Talks With Unions

A strike at TAAG – Linhas Aéreas de Angola, scheduled for Tuesday, 1 September, was called off after the airline and its unions resumed negotiations, the company's management announced.

According to a statement cited by Lusa, TAAG's management said that 'following meetings held with the union structure, which had announced a work stoppage for 1 September, the respective strike notice has been withdrawn.'

The statement added that negotiations are continuing 'with a view to building a balanced and sustainable solution.' The decision 'makes it possible to ensure the normal continuity of operations and to maintain the negotiation process within the framework of dialogue between management and workers' representatives,' TAAG said.

Quoted in the statement, board chairman Clóvis Rosa said 'this is the path that should continue to be prioritised.'

'We value the decision to maintain dialogue and to continue negotiations. There are naturally matters on which positions need to be brought closer together, but that work must be done responsibly and with the awareness that we are all part of the same company,' he said.

The objective of the negotiations, he clarified, 'is to find balanced solutions for the company's staff and sustainable ones for the organisation.'

TAAG's management also indicated that it 'equally maintains dialogue with the remaining representative structures of workers, seeking to ensure that the different matters of a labour nature are addressed through negotiation, responsibility, and the pursuit of consensus.'

TAAG's maintenance technicians had announced the strike over wage demands and in protest against what they described as unilateral decisions by the airline's management.
