Standard Bank Angola Lists on BODIVA After State Divests 34% Stake

Standard Bank Angola (SBA) made its formal market debut on Wednesday, 30 September, on the equities market of Angola's Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA), with an official admission ceremony marked by the traditional ringing of the bell at the bourse's headquarters in Luanda.

The listing concluded the process through which the Angolan state fully exited its position in the bank. The operation was conducted by the Institute for the Management of State Assets and Holdings (IGAPE) under the country's privatisation programme, PROPRIV, and involved the divestment of the state's 34% stake in the bank's share capital.

The transaction was structured in two parts. Standard Bank Group, the majority shareholder, exercised its pre-emption right to acquire 24% of the capital, lifting its total holding to 79%. The remaining 10% was sold to the general public through a Public Share Offering (OPV).

During the subscription period, the offering attracted more than 6,000 new shareholders. From Wednesday, with the commencement of continuous trading on the secondary market, investors are now able to buy and sell shares acquired through the OPV.

The admission of Standard Bank Angola's shares to trading on BODIVA expands the number of banking institutions present on the Angolan stock market. The bourse listing of state-held stakes in financial institutions forms part of the country's broader privatisation drive and its efforts to develop a domestic capital market.

With trading now under way, Standard Bank Angola joins the group of banks with shares actively traded on BODIVA, broadening the range of options available to investors in Angola's capital markets.
