Saipem Wins US$900M Contract in Angola

Angola’s New Gas Consortium – comprising Azule Energy, Chevron, Sonangol and TotalEnergies – has awarded Italian multinational oilfield services company, Saipem, three engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts.

The contracts are for the development of the Quiluma and Maboqueiro (Q&M) fields located in the Lower Congo Basin, offshore Angola. The one onshore and two offshore contracts, estimated at a total $900 million, will see Saipem conduct EPC work including hook-up and commissioning assistance for the Quiluma platform.

Saipem will also conduct EPC work for the onshore Angola liquefied natural gas (ALNG) project.

The Q&M fields will serve as feedstock for ALNG, with the development aiming to increase both domestic gas utilization and export.

Located in the shallow waters off the coast of Angola, the Q&M fields represent the first non-associated gas development project in Angola, with capacity to produce four billion cubic feet of gas per year.

With the final investment decision having been made in July 2022, and now Saipem being brought on-board, the project is set to advance, bringing much-needed natural gas capacity online in Angola.
