The African Sunrise group, owned by Chinese businessman Jack Huang, is to invest 5 billion kwanzas (11 million euros) in a new exhibition center in China City, in Luanda.
The first stone of the exhibition center, a three-story building with supermarkets, stores and an exhibition hall, with a total construction area of 24,000 square meters, which will create 300 direct jobs and a further 1,000 indirect jobs, was laid on Sunday.
Jack Huang stressed at the time that China City was able to secure jobs during the pandemic and added that the exhibition center will become a new highlight of China-Angola economic and trade cooperation in the post-epidemic world.
The president of the Angola-China Chamber of Commerce, Luís Cupenala, also present at the ceremony, spoke about the investments of the African Sunrise group – US$200 million (195 million euros) in China City, a shopping mall with 400 stores, to which an additional 5 billion kwanzas will be added at Kikolo Shopping – stressing that the mobilization of foreign private investment to the country is aligned with the practices and strategies of the National Development Plan.
The president of the General Association of Chinese Residents in Angola stressed, for his part, that the new project will meet the consumption needs of the Angolan market whose prospects are “very promising.
“The Chinese compatriots in Angola should carry forward their excellent traditional virtues, work with the Angolan people to build a community of shared future for humanity,” Pei Wenhua also said.
He also argued that companies with Chinese financing in Angola “should strengthen the integration of Chinese and Angolan workers.
