Angola’s Special Economic Zone Signs Investment MoU with African Bank of Oman

The African Bank of Oman (ABO) and Angola's Special Economic Zone (ZEE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two institutions and creating new opportunities to support investment in the SEZ. The agreement establishes a collaborative framework for identifying and structuring projects, developing financing solutions, and promoting the Special Economic Zone to both domestic and international investors.

The memorandum provides for cooperation in identifying, structuring, and promoting investment initiatives, as well as developing tailored financing solutions to meet the needs of projects and investors seeking to establish operations within the SEZ.

The cooperation covers areas including project finance, trade finance, and financial advisory services, encompassing support for investors throughout the processes of establishing and developing their operations. The two institutions will also share information on investment opportunities and collaborate in promoting the SEZ through business forums, economic missions, capacity-building initiatives, and other events designed to connect investors with available projects.

The signing of the MoU comes at a moment of strengthening ties between Angola and Oman, following the recent state visit to Angola by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, which resulted in the signing of several agreements and memoranda between the two countries.

"The African Bank of Oman was born precisely from that shared commitment between the two states to bring Gulf capital closer to investment opportunities in Africa, with Angola as the natural gateway for that connection. That is why this memorandum with the Special Economic Zone makes so much sense. The SEZ is one of the most important instruments Angola has to attract productive, industrial, and export-oriented investment, and the African Bank of Oman wants to be an active financial partner in that effort," said Dinis Mendes, chairman of the executive committee of ABO.

For the bank, the partnership with the Special Economic Zone will enable it to advance its strategy of bridging Gulf markets with Angola through the financing and support of investment initiatives.

"This is another natural step in our mission. We were created to serve as a bridge between Gulf capital and Africa's economic development, and this memorandum with the ZEE gives us a concrete instrument to translate that mission into real projects with a direct impact on the Angolan economy," Mendes added.

The cooperation between ABO and the Special Economic Zone is thus designed to foster greater coordination among financial institutions, investors, and companies, with the objective of facilitating capital mobilisation and the establishment of new economic activities within the SEZ.
