The gaming sector in Angola generated over 4.6 billion kwanzas in April 2026, marking a 111.6 percent increase compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ).
According to the newsletter from the agency overseen by the Ministry of Finance, total revenue collected during the period amounted to 4,653,730,131 kwanzas, compared to the 2,199,214,618 kwanzas recorded in March.
The figures demonstrate a significant expansion of gaming activity in the country, driven primarily by tax revenues, which accounted for 99 percent of the total collected. The parafiscal component accounted for a residual 1 percent.
Among the main sources of revenue, gaming prizes stand out, accounting for 58 percent of total revenue, followed by operators’ gross revenue, at 41 percent. Working capital contributed 1.2 percent, while prizes from occasional games accounted for only 0.04 percent.
The report also reveals that tax revenue grew by 115.3 percent between March and April, supporting the overall increase in the sector’s revenue. In contrast, parafiscal revenue fell by 42.6 percent over the same period.
Land-based social games led the revenue, generating over 2.68 billion kwanzas, followed by games of chance, which brought in approximately 1.66 billion. Online remote games, meanwhile, contributed approximately 285 million kwanzas.
According to the ISJ, the growth was driven by a sharp increase in gross revenue subject to the Special Gaming Tax (IEJ), which rose by more than 900 percent, becoming the main driver of the sector’s positive performance.
Game prizes also saw significant growth, rising by over 368 percent, while working capital increased by more than 180 percent.
In the games of chance segment, total revenue grew by approximately 693 percent, reflecting a sharp expansion in activity. In turn, online remote gaming recorded an increase of 183 percent, highlighting the growing demand for digital entertainment platforms.
For the Gaming Supervision Institute, April’s results confirm a growth trajectory for the sector, driven by increased economic activity associated with gaming and higher tax revenue.
