Angola’s 2025 Budget: US$115M Boost For Agricultural Campaign

The Angolan government has earmarked 105 billion kwanzas in its proposed 2025 State Budget to support the country’s 2024/2025 agricultural campaign.

This significant allocation reflects Angola’s commitment to bolstering agricultural production, focusing on providing inputs, equipment, and financing for family farming enterprises.

Through the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the government has devised an action plan targeting over one million family farming households. This initiative includes the distribution of fertilisers, high-quality seeds, and essential agricultural tools and equipment to enhance productivity and food security.

As part of the programme, 222,371 work tools have been procured, with machetes and hoes making up 82% of the total. This effort underscores the government’s dedication to equipping small-scale farmers with the resources needed to sustain their livelihoods and contribute to the agricultural sector’s growth.

The agricultural sector in Angola is poised for an 8.40% growth in 2025, highlighting the critical role of government investment in driving productivity and fostering economic stability in rural communities.

Agriculture plays a pivotal role in Angola’s economy, serving as both a source of livelihood for a significant portion of the population and a critical driver of national development. Despite the dominance of the oil sector in the country’s GDP, agriculture employs the majority of Angola’s workforce, particularly in rural areas.

The sector is vital for food security and poverty reduction, with family farming representing a substantial share of agricultural production. Crops such as maize, cassava, and beans are staples, while coffee and bananas remain key export commodities, showcasing the sector’s dual domestic and international importance.

In recent years, the Angolan government has prioritised agriculture as a cornerstone for economic diversification and sustainable development. Investments in infrastructure, modern farming techniques, and access to financing are helping to revitalise the sector, which was heavily impacted by decades of civil conflict.

Angola’s vast arable land and favourable climate provide immense potential for agricultural expansion. By focusing on productivity and supporting family farming, Angola aims to reduce its reliance on food imports and establish itself as a regional agricultural powerhouse, contributing to long-term economic stability.
