Angola has been elected as a member of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) during the 26th General Assembly held from November 7 to 11 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The resolution’s approval follows the country’s election during the 68th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF).
In addition, Angola was also officially appointed as a member of the organization’s Online Training Committee, expanding its role in shaping international policies in the field of tourism.
According to the statement, the session, which marked the organization’s 50th anniversary, brought together more than 160 delegations from member countries under the theme “Driving Tourism through Artificial Intelligence: Redefining the Future,” focusing on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming global tourism.
During the event, participants discussed, among other topics, the impact and applications of AI on visitor experiences, operational efficiency, and destination sustainability.
The digital transformation of the sector and international cooperation were also addressed, with a focus on South-South solidarity mechanisms (Africa and the Americas) aimed at strengthening tourism between the two regions.
Among the most notable institutional moments was the official appointment of Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais as the elected Secretary-General of UN Tourism, succeeding Zurab Pololikashvili and marking the beginning of a new phase in the organization’s leadership.
