Angola has completed a repurchase of $700 million in Eurobonds maturing in 2028 and 2029, in a move aimed at reducing the pressure of public debt payments in the coming years
According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance obtained by OPAÍS, the transaction was financed with part of the proceeds from the issuance of new Eurobonds on May 20, totaling $1.5 billion, maturing in 2031 and 2037.
“The transaction was carried out following the issuance of Eurobonds on May 20, 2026, in the amount of $1.5 billion, maturing in 2031 and 2037, with part of the proceeds used to finance the repurchase of existing securities, allowing for the extension of the public debt profile,” the statement reads. Of the $700 million repurchased, $400 million corresponds to bonds maturing in 2028 and $300 million to bonds maturing in 2029.
In the case of the 2028 debt, this was the second buyback operation carried out this year, bringing the total amount of securities withdrawn from this series in 2026 to $900 million. “Following the $500 million buyback in March, this operation added $400 million, bringing the total withdrawn from this maturity to $900 million.”
