Angola: President Inaugurates New €58M Huawei Tech Park in Luanda

Chinese technology company Huawei has invested over €58 million (US$60 million) in a technology park, which will train 10,000 Angolans and have innovation and advanced technology centres, inaugurated on Monday by the Angolan president, João Lourenço,

The Huawei Technologies technology park in Luanda is the third in Africa, after Egypt and South Africa.

The Chinese ambassador in Luanda, Gong Tao, who spoke after the visit of the Angolan head of government to the multinational’s new facilities, noted that Huawei attaches great importance to its social responsibilities and the promotion of technological knowledge.

“This investment aims to promote innovative development, digital transformation and growth of information and communication technology talent in Angola,” said the Chinese diplomat, stressing that China and Angola are like “brothers and good friends” who help each other.

He added that the two countries wanted to speed up the alignment of development strategies and deepen cooperation in the technology, digital economy and human resources training areas.

The technology park will train over 10,000 Angolans, as well as teachers of technical and technological courses at Angolan universities, until 2027.

As well as the training centre, the technology park has an innovation centre for new technologies and another for advanced technological experiments, according to Angolan news agency Angop.

The technology park also has a data centre and 3G, 4G and 5G telephone solutions and solar panels for housing and businesses, creating 120 jobs, mainly for Angolans.

The complex also has four training rooms with 32 seats each, three residential buildings for 180 staff, a canteen for 100 people and a futsal playing area.
