Angola Oil & Gas Conference Opens in Luanda With Investment Focus

Angola Oil & Gas, the country’s flagship oil and gas industry gathering, opened on Wednesday, 9 September, in Luanda, with investment, production, and local content at the centre of the agenda.

The seventh edition of the annual conference and exhibition, organised by Energy Capital & Power, is being held under the theme ‘Investing in Angola’s Future’, at a time when the country is seeking to sustain output from existing fields, advance new projects, expand gas utilisation and refining capacity, and increase the participation of domestic companies in sector-generated investment.

Over two days, the event brings together operators, regulators, investors, and companies to discuss topics including deep-water exploration, gas, refining, financing, local content, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and infrastructure decommissioning, at the Talatona Convention Centre in Luanda.

The first day is focused on investment and the capacity to convert petroleum resources into new projects. The programme includes a session dedicated to the return on investment in Angola’s oil basins, as well as a panel debate on deep-water exploration and production.

Gas and downstream activities are among the main themes of the second and final day. The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels is expected to present Angola’s Gas Master Plan, to be followed by a discussion on the commercial and infrastructure conditions needed to increase the use of this resource in the national economy.

Fuel supply security, the expansion of refining capacity, and the reduction of import dependency are also on the agenda for analysis.

The role of Angolan companies in the value chain is another topic under discussion. Banks, financial institutions, public entities, and private firms will examine access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the sector, as well as the mechanisms required to bring local content targets closer to the actual capacity to execute contracts.

The conference also includes sessions on the application of AI to petroleum operations, mature assets, offshore infrastructure decommissioning, and the Greater PAJ and Kaminho projects, covering different stages of the energy asset lifecycle.
