Angola: New Gas Processing Plant Will Contribute to Greater Product Stability in the Country

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, will inaugurate the new Gas Processing Plant (GPP) in the municipality of Soyo, Zaire province. The facility is considered strategic for increasing the availability of cooking gas in the country and strengthening the national energy industry.

According to the Presidency of the Republic, the plant will increase the production and processing of natural gas and its derivatives, reinforcing supply to the domestic market and to the Angola LNG plant. Among the main expected impacts is a greater supply of cooking gas for households and consumers, which will reduce market pressures and contribute to greater product stability, O País reported.

During the visit, the President will review the overall state of the project, which began in October 2023 under the New Gas Consortium (NGC), made up of TotalEnergies, Azule Energy, Chevron and Sonangol, under the coordination of the National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG). Project technicians recently explained that the works include a tunnel between land and sea for the passage of the gas pipeline, following the removal of construction materials, as well as infrastructure that will increase gas production and transport capacity.

The provincial governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, considers the inauguration of the plant “a major gain” for the province and for the country, especially at a time when Angola celebrates 50 years of independence. He stressed that the project will generate direct employment for more than 400 workers after completion, in addition to having mobilised over 2,600 during the construction phase.
