Angola: National Savings to Fall to 10.02% of GDP in 2025

Angola’s national savings fell to their lowest level in the past five years, standing at 10.02% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2025, according to the Preliminary Annual National Accounts released on Monday (4) by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The indicator fell by 5.86 percentage points from the 15.88% recorded in 2024, driven by a 33.36% increase in private spending, which outpaced the growth in disposable income, which stood at 26.29%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Gross savings, in absolute terms, stood at 12.02 billion euros.

The investment rate, measured by gross fixed capital formation as a percentage of GDP, also declined, falling from 10.62% in 2024 to 9.65% in 2025, the lowest figure for the period under review.

The economy’s net financing capacity, which reflects the country’s margin for sustaining its development without resorting to external financing, fell from 5.15% of GDP in 2024 to 0.35% in 2025. This trend results from the combination of the decline in gross savings and the increase in gross fixed capital formation.

Angola’s economy grew by 3.13% in real terms in 2025, representing a slowdown of 1.82 percentage points compared to the 4.95% recorded in 2024, driven by a 5.23% contraction in the oil sector.

The activities that contributed most to GDP growth were Agriculture and Forestry (0.71 percentage points), Manufacturing (0.69 percentage points), Public Administration (0.47 percentage points), and Trade (0.44 percentage points).
