The Monetary Base in national currency (MN) stood at 2,549.13 billion kwanzas in December, registering a monthly increase of 5.36%, according to data from the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
The growth was driven by a sharp increase in excess reserves in MN, which rose 60.41% to 209.96 billion kwanzas, as well as by an increase in banknotes and coins in circulation, which rose 11.26% to 1,064.57 billion kwanzas.
On the other hand, mandatory reserves in national currency contributed to limiting the growth of the central bank’s operating variable, registering a reduction of 4.28% to 1,274.60 billion kwanzas.
In the same period, the broad monetary base also showed positive growth, increasing by 5.15% to 4,342.40 billion kwanzas, according to the Central Bank.
