Angola’s inflation rate stood at 10.88% year-on-year in May, marking the 22nd consecutive month of deceleration and reaching its lowest level since June 2023, according to an announcement on Monday (8) by the Angolan National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) recorded in May is 0.7 percentage points lower than in April and 9.86 percentage points lower than in the same month of 2025.
The “Transportation” category recorded the largest increase in the price index, with a year-on-year change of 15.73%, followed by “Housing, water, electricity, and fuels” at 14.32%, “Education” at 13.40%, and “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” at 11.33%.
According to the CPI, “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” contributed the most to the increase in the overall price level, with 6.9 percentage points during the month of May, equivalent to 63.41% of the total change in the index.
At the provincial level, Cabinda had the highest price variation, at 16.56%, followed by Malanje, at 13.76%, and Moxico, at 12.45%.
Huambo, at 7.76%, Cunene at 8.29%, and Lunda Norte at 8.35% were the Angolan provinces with the lowest price changes during this period, according to the same source.
