Angola: Inflation Slows for the Fourth Consecutive Month in 2025

The National Statistics Institute (INE) released on Monday (12) the latest data on the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN), an economic indicator that measures the average variation in prices of a basket of goods and services consumed by households. In April, this indicator slowed down in Angola, continuing the downward trend observed since the beginning of the current year.

The data show that between March and April 2025, the index recorded a monthly variation of 1.34%. Year-on-year — comparing April 2024 to April 2025 — inflation also decelerated, with the current rate standing 1.27 percentage points (p.p.) below the level recorded in the same period the previous year.

The year-on-year variation of the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) stood at 22.32% in April 2025, representing a decrease of 5.89 p.p. compared to the rate recorded in April 2024. This deceleration in inflation has been consistent since the start of this year.

Furthermore, when comparing the current year-on-year variation for April 2025 with that of the previous month, March 2025, a deceleration of 1.53 p.p. is observed, reinforcing the national inflation’s downward trend.

“The ‘Alcoholic beverages and tobacco’ category recorded the highest price increase, with a variation of 1.94%. Notable price increases were also observed in the categories of ‘Clothing and footwear’ (1.80%), ‘Hotels, cafés and restaurants’ (1.65%), and ‘Health’ (1.56%),” the report states.

The provinces of Luanda (1.10%), Malanje (1.23%), Huambo and Namibe (1.31% each) recorded the lowest price variations in April 2025, standing out as the regions with the most moderate IPCN behavior. In contrast, the provinces of Cabinda (1.91%), Cuanza-Norte (1.90%), and Huíla (1.81%) registered the highest variations, making them the areas with the greatest inflationary pressure during the period.
