Angola: Inflation Slowed to 13.35% in February

The inflation rate in February 2026 stood at 13.35%, the lowest in 31 months, according to INE. Economists interviewed by this newspaper point to the stability of the kwanza and the greater supply of goods as some of the factors influencing the decline.

The National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) registered a variation of 13.35% in February 2026, compared to the same period last year, representing a slowdown of 1.21 percentage points compared to the previous month and 11.91 percentage points compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the document, analyzed by OPAÍS, the “Transport” category recorded the largest increase in the price index, with a year-on-year variation of 18.66%. Also noteworthy are the increases in the categories of “Housing, water, electricity, and fuel,” with 16.06%, “Health,” with 14.24%, and “Food and non-alcoholic beverages,” with 13.55%.

The “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” category contributed most to the increase in the overall price level with 8.24 percentage points during the month of February, followed by the categories of “Miscellaneous goods and services” with 0.91 percentage points, “Transport” with 0.90 percentage points, and Housing, water, electricity, and fuels with 0.62 percentage points, with the remaining categories contributing less than 0.62 percentage points.

The provinces with the lowest price variation were Huambo, with 11.36%, Cunene, with 11.47%, and Zaire, with 11.82%. Meanwhile, the provinces with the highest variation in the general price level were Cabinda, with 21.22%, Lunda-Sul, with 15.70%, and Moxico, with 15.15%, according to INE data.
