The inflation rate in Angola fell 15.11 percentage points in January, reaching 12.55 percent, according to the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) published today by the Angolan National Statistics Institute (INE).
According to the IPCN, in January 2023 the year-on-year change posted a drop of 15.11 percentage points against the same period of the previous year (January 2022), with a slowdown of 1.31 percentage points when compared to the previous month.
In monthly terms, INE’s Quick Factsheet (FIR) reports, the price index registered a change of 0.83% between December 2022 and January 2023.
Comparing the monthly variations, there was a deceleration of 0.04 percentage points, a reduction also registered in year-on-year terms (January 2022 to January 2023) with 1.17 percentage points.
Clothing and footwear” was the class that registered the highest price increase over the previous month, with a variation of 1.77%. Also of note were price increases in the following categories: “health” with 1.69%, “goods and services” with 1.19% and “leisure, recreation and culture” with 1.12%.
Zaire (1.09%), Namibe (1.07%) and Cunene (1.03%) are the Angolan provinces that registered the greatest variation in prices during this period.
The provinces that recorded the least variation in prices were Moxico with 0.70%, Cuando-Cubango with 0.72% and Bengo with 0.75%.
