Angola's annual inflation rate fell to 8.78% in August, marking the second consecutive month below the double-digit threshold, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Tuesday, 8 September.
According to the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN), Angola's year-on-year inflation decelerated by 0.55 percentage points compared with July and by 10.09 percentage points relative to the same period in 2024.
Angola's inflation has maintained a downward trajectory. Since the IPCN series began in 2015, this is only the second consecutive month in which annual inflation has remained below 10%. In July, the rate stood at 9.33%.
The 'food and non-alcoholic beverages' category was the largest contributor to the overall rise in prices, adding 6.01 percentage points in August. It was followed by 'goods and services' at 0.43 percentage points, 'health' at 0.42 percentage points, and 'education' at 0.37 percentage points.
At the provincial level, Cabinda (11.53%), Malanje (11.25%), and Lunda Sul (10.69%) recorded the highest year-on-year price increases during the period.
The lowest variations were registered in Cuanza Norte (5.22%), Huambo (5.85%), and Cunene (6.69%).
The IPCN, which tracks price movements for a basket of goods and services across the country, has been compiled systematically since January 2015 and covers all 18 provinces of Angola.
