Angola: Hungary Invests Around USD 50 Million in Strategic Sectors

The Republic of Hungary has already invested approximately 50 million dollars in various strategic sectors in Angola, announced this Wednesday in Benguela province by the President of the Chamber of Commerce of both countries, Célio Ginga.

According to Ginga, speaking during a visit of Hungarian businessmen to Benguela, Hungary aims to deepen economic cooperation, focusing on the infrastructure, industry, transport, logistics, health, pharmacies, agriculture-livestock, and tourism sectors.

Célio Ginga also highlighted the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor, which he considers a key area for national development.

“The Lobito Corridor is essential to catalyse the Angolan economy, not only as a logistical support route but also as a regional reference and potential export platform,” he stated.

He emphasized that Hungary has maintained relations with Angola since 1975 and possesses advanced technology, particularly in infrastructure and bridge construction.
“It is one of the European countries with the highest number of bridges and has modern machinery that Angola can leverage, at a time when the country continues strong structural expansion,” he added.

According to Célio Ginga, the Hungarian government demonstrates an “extraordinary openness” to support not only the development of the corridor but also to ensure that the surrounding communities benefit directly.

Meanwhile, the President of the Benguela Business Alliance, Adérito Areias, stated that Hungary is among the most developed countries in Europe in terms of infrastructure and industry, and can offer valuable opportunities for partnerships with Angolan entrepreneurs.

“We want to take advantage of this potential to build strong connections and generate new business opportunities,” he stressed.

Another advantage highlighted by the entrepreneurs is the possibility for Angola to benefit from Hungarian technical education and training, especially in areas critical to economic development.

The Provincial Governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, expressed the Angolan government’s interest and readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

He noted that Benguela is open to Hungarian investment in a wide range of areas, given its diversified potential, and requested particular attention to the health sector, especially local drug manufacturing, to reduce imports and increase employment.

“Benguela is the most sought-after province in the country for domestic tourism, and we want to turn it into an international attraction. With your intention to invest in this segment as well, this initiative can certainly be realized,” he concluded.
