The province of Huíla plans to begin exporting its ornamental rocks to the United States this year, after long periods of selling raw materials to China, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, considered the largest buyers of these products.
The information was recently announced by the director of the Huíla Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development, Domingos Calumana, who emphasized that transportation will be carried out from the ports of Namibe and Lobito. Although he did not mention a specific date, according to the official, the initiative will serve as a lever for the economic sector at the local and national levels, and at this point, all negotiation processes for the start of exports are already underway.
“We have now received a note that we have already begun to have some contact and export interest from some companies in the United States of America,” he revealed. Domingos Calumana also considered the need for investors to begin to look with greater interest at the ornamental stone sector, as with greater investment, it may be possible to create more jobs.
“We must continue to work, raising awareness above all else that those who invest in Huíla province are investing in a very strategic province, given its geographical location,” he urged. Located in the southern region of the country, Huíla province has one of the most important industrial parks in Angola. In industrial mining, kaolin, manganese, mica, and black granite are extracted.
