The National Bank of Angola reports that, in April, gross credit to the non-financial sector increased by approximately 1.2 trillion kwanzas (15.6%), reaching 9.0 trillion kwanzas compared to the same period last year. However, 84.1% represents the debt of private companies and individuals, and 15.9% represents the debt of the public sector, namely the government and public enterprises
The BNA’s April bulletin states that the stock of credit to the economy, in local currency, reached 7.3 trillion kwanzas, an increase of 959.0 billion kwanzas (15.1%) compared to the same period in 2025.
Meanwhile, the debt of the non-financial public sector totaled 1.4 trillion kwanzas, of which 65.8% pertained to the government and 34.2% to public enterprises. Compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 447.2 billion kwanzas.
Meanwhile, the debt of private companies and individuals increased by 773.7 billion kwanzas (11.3%), rising from 6.8 trillion kwanzas in April 2025 to 7.6 trillion kwanzas in the same period.
The debt of non-financial private companies amounted to 5.9 trillion kwanzas, an increase of 520.8 billion kwanzas (9.8%), while the debt of households totaled 1.7 trillion kwanzas, an increase of 252.9 billion kwanzas (17.0%).
Gross credit directed to the real sector of the economy totaled 1.8 trillion kwanzas, an increase of 281.0 billion kwanzas (17.9%) compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, driven mainly by the performance of the extractive industries, which recorded a change of 251.8 billion kwanzas (48.4%).
Meanwhile, total credit extended under BNA Notice No. 10/2024 for the promotion of the real sector reached 1.4 trillion kwanzas, representing 76.4% of total credit extended to this sector and 15.8% of the banking system’s gross credit portfolio.
