The Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, on Monday in Luanda, called for coordination, commitment, and a sense of responsibility to raise the quality in the implementation of public policies in the sector and to align key projects with concrete results.
Speaking at the 11th Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, the minister stated that the real challenge of public governance lies in implementation, rigorous monitoring, and the ability to correct flaws identified in projects.
To achieve this, he considered it necessary to significantly improve how actions are presented and monitored, noting that “dispersed and overly descriptive or hardly comparable information does not help in decision-making.”
He pointed out the need to move toward a model that allows, in just a few minutes, understanding what “is being executed well, what is at risk, and where urgent high-level intervention is needed,” emphasizing that projects fail more due to lack of monitoring, coordination, and accountability.
“This is not only a technical issue; it is a matter of good governance, since governing well today means governing with data, focus, and execution discipline,” he added.
Diamantino Azevedo reminded that the Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas sector (MIREMPET) plays a central role in the country’s economic development, attracting investment and creating value, which requires a high level of professionalism, rigor, and commitment to results from its stakeholders.
The 11th Meeting of the MIREMPET Advisory Council, which concludes today, takes place under the theme “Sector Key Projects: Current Status and Challenges” and aims primarily to analyze strategic issues for the sector.
Restricted in nature, it reviews the status of key projects in the mining and petroleum segments, including those completed in the last five years and those currently under execution.
