The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MINPERMAR) and the company EM&EA signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday in Luanda, valued at 170 million US dollars, aimed at establishing the basic framework for the design, licensing, installation and operation of an integrated marine aquaculture project.
According to a statement from MINPERMAR, the investment will involve the construction and operation of a Fry Reproduction Centre (Larviculture Centre) for marine species, as well as the installation and assembly of 50 large-scale cage tanks for the farming of marine fish species, with an estimated total annual production capacity of around 300,000 tonnes.
The project also includes the development of three-dimensional aquaculture of molluscs and marine algae, through the implementation of a modern shellfish and algae farming system. This will cover species such as Chilean mussels, California mussels, oysters, abalones, sea cucumbers and algae, as well as an experimental and scientific marine shrimp farming component.
The company also plans to set up an aquaculture feed factory, processing and storage centres, a cold chain system and a marketing centre. The development of scientific projects and the establishment of marine monitoring points are likewise envisaged.
