The Angolan government intends to strengthen support for the education and health sectors, acknowledging limitations in budget execution in 2025 and outlining measures to improve performance in the coming years.
The information was provided by Finance Minister Vera Daves during an interview with Lusa in Washington, on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings.
According to the minister, the government is working to correct imbalances in resource allocation, with a focus on increasing investment in social sectors. Among the priorities, she highlighted improving conditions in schools, many of which still face shortages in terms of electricity, water, and sanitation.
In the field of education, the government is also seeking to mobilize new sources of external financing, notably credit lines opened by Portugal and ongoing negotiations with Israel, which could support structural projects in the sector.
On the topic of health, the minister highlighted the progress made in building hospitals, driven by external funding, and assured that the government intends to continue investing in improving the responsiveness of health services.
Among the measures currently underway, the implementation of the school feeding program—already underway in some regions of the country—stands out, with the goal of ensuring at least one daily meal for students in the most vulnerable situations.
Vera Daves assured that, despite the challenges, the government is committed to increasing efficiency in the use of public resources and improving budget execution levels, expressing confidence that 2026 could bring more positive results for the education and health sectors.
