Angola: Government Invests €14.6 Million in the Purchase of 342,000 Bags of Fertilizer and Seeds for Farmers

Angola will distribute nearly 342,000 bags of fertilizer and seeds to farming families, in an investment of €14.6 million, to boost food production.

According to a report by Lusa, President João Lourenço has authorized the purchase of 181,930 bags of NPK 12-24-12 fertilizer and 160,000 bags of ammonium sulfate, valued at approximately €10.3 million, in addition to specialized services to support the production process, imported seeds, and agricultural tools.

The goal is to strengthen national food production and ensure the continuity of support programs for family farming, with implementation delegated to the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Isaac Francisco Maria dos Anjos.

In another decree, the head of state authorized a public tender worth 59.4 million euros for the completion of the Pérola Imperial Project, which was transferred to the Housing Development Fund (FFH) following the recovery of loans granted through RECREDIT, an entity created to manage troubled assets in the Angolan financial system.

The Angolan government will also spend 47.4 million euros on emergency works to halt erosion along the Serra da Leba Road in Namibe Province, contain advancing ravines, and stabilize the slopes, using funds from the Road and Emergency Works Fund (FROE).

According to the presidential order, heavy rains, mountainous terrain, and heavy traffic have exacerbated landslides and rockfalls, putting human lives and the infrastructure of National Highway EN 280 at risk.
