The Angolan Government approved on Saturday (29) the regulation governing the export of green coffee (coffee that has not been processed after harvesting), establishing rules and procedures for exports aimed at enhancing its international value and increasing the income of producing families.
The decree, approved by the Council of Ministers chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço, seeks to contribute to the “promotion, quality improvement and enhancement of Angolan coffee in the international market.”
Promoting the economic and social development of green coffee-producing regions is also one of the objectives of the regulation, according to the press statement released after the meeting.
Speaking to journalists, Angola’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, stressed that the decree on green coffee exports should help increase family incomes.
“This decree aims to regulate how coffee should be prepared for export. In our current reality, this crop is beginning to offer prospects for higher family incomes, and we want producers to benefit more from their production within the country,” he argued.
“This set of legal instruments is intended precisely to restore coffee’s role as an income-generating crop, which is why standards are being established so that it can become an alternative source of revenue,” he added.
Isaac dos Anjos also stated that his ministry is working to increase the supply of coffee plants through the establishment of nurseries in several locations, with support from Angola’s Coffee Promotion Fund and the Agricultural Development Fund.
During the same session, Angola’s Council of Ministers also reviewed legislation to be submitted to the National Assembly authorising the National Bank of Angola (BNA) to issue and circulate a commemorative legal tender coin in honour of the institution’s 50th anniversary.
The Angolan Government further approved a draft presidential decree aimed at eliminating the requirement for advertising licences issued by local State administration bodies.
