The Angolan government and the World Bank (WB) have analyzed a new plan to support the country for the next five years, at a time when the WB has praised Angola for its “implementation of macroeconomic and fiscal reforms,” according to World Bank Director of Operations Anna Bjerde.
Speaking during a meeting with the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, she said that these initiatives have contributed to strengthening cooperation between Angola and the World Bank, creating a more solid foundation for economic growth and sustainable development in the country.
“Angola has been working on priorities, and these priorities have to do with diversifying the country’s economy,” she acknowledged, adding that the government is very interested in public-private partnerships.
Anna Bjerde pointed out that the water and agribusiness sectors have high potential for the implementation of shared investment models, which are not limited to large projects, but also support small farmers in various regions.
The director also highlighted Angola’s role in regional integration, alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
In this regard, she highlighted the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor, which should be transformed into an economic corridor so that it can play a stronger role in terms of implementing infrastructure to support the people living in the surrounding areas.
The World Bank’s director of operations made a three-day working visit to the country to participate in the inaugural High-Level Coordination meeting of the Lobito Corridor.
