The volume of foreign exchange traded in Angola’s currency market grew by 288% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, a surge driven by an increase in the supply of U.S. dollars.
According to the sales report from the National Bank of Angola (BNA), reviewed this Friday by ANGOP, the foreign exchange market reached sales exceeding $50 million in three months, compared to the $17.5 million injected during the same period in 2025.
According to the document, this performance consolidates a trend of recovery in foreign currency liquidity, considering that, in the first quarter of 2024, the market “did not have a supply of dollars,” with the supply having been ensured at the time by sales in euros, amounting to over 21 million dollars.
As for the comparative evolution, the data indicate a shift in the profile of currencies made available to the banking and parabanking system (currency exchange bureaus and other institutions) over the past three years.
