More than 200 people have died of cholera in Angola since January, out of a total of 5,749 registered cases, according to figures from the Angolan Ministry of Health.
According to the epidemiological bulletin, released on Sunday night, Angola has a total of 204 deaths since the beginning of the disease and 97 new cases, making a total of 5,749 cases, with the province of Luanda leading the way with 2,963 cases.
After Luanda, the epicentre of the outbreak, Bengo province has a total of 2,004 cases, Icolo e Bengo (642), Malanje (68), Kwanza Sul (29), Uíje (10), Huambo (10), Huíla (07), Cabinda (07), Zaire (05), Kwanza Norte (02), Cunene and Cubango with cases respectively.
The Angolan capital also leads the way with the number of deaths, totalling 105, followed by Bengo (74), Icolo e Bengo (19), Malanje (03), Kwanza Sul two and Cabinda with one death.
According to the same source, 145 people are hospitalised in Angola with cholera.
