Trade between Angola and China reached $10.8 billion in the first half of 2026, equivalent to roughly half the total recorded for the whole of 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Angola Zhang Bin announced on Monday following an audience with the President of the National Assembly, Adão de Almeida.
Speaking after the meeting, Zhang Bin said that bilateral trade between the two countries totalled $20.8 billion in 2025 alone. "During the first six months of this year, the volume of business has already reached $10.8 billion. We expect this figure to surpass last year's," he said.
During the meeting, Zhang Bin and Adão de Almeida reviewed the state of cooperation between the two countries and expressed interest in strengthening institutional ties, particularly through high-level visits between the presidents of the Angolan and Chinese parliaments.
Both officials also called for deeper cooperation and exchange between the specialised committees of their respective parliaments, as well as greater sharing of governance experience.
Zhang Bin highlighted the openness and readiness of Chinese companies and investors to commit capital to Angola. "We have also recently received many delegations of Chinese businesspeople coming from China to learn about the business environment in Angola, and we have many projects in the pipeline," he said.
Asked about visa applications processed by the Chinese embassy, Zhang Bin revealed that more than 3,000 visas were issued to Angolan nationals travelling to China between January and June of this year.
"This figure represents significant growth compared to the post-pandemic period and also reflects the increase in the flow of people between our two countries," he concluded.
Angola and China have maintained cooperative relations for 43 years. The Asian nation played a notable role in Angola's post-civil war reconstruction and retains investments across agriculture, mining, finance, trade, manufacturing, industrial parks, real estate, and services.
