Angola and Oman Sign 13 Agreements Worth Over $1.4bn

Angola and Oman signed 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding valued at more than $1.4 billion in Luanda on Friday, covering trade, energy, agriculture and political-diplomatic cooperation.

The legal instruments were signed during a 24-hour state visit to Luanda by Oman's Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik Al Said. The signing is intended to strengthen cooperation between the two countries across areas of mutual interest.

In his address, Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik Al Said said the agreements and memoranda signed during the visit, valued at more than $1.4 billion, "create a strong foundation of lasting opportunities for both peoples."

"In this regard, we encourage all stakeholders, both public and private sectors of both countries, to maintain their efforts with a view to exploring the opportunities of this partnership, as well as empowering entrepreneurs to benefit from the promising business and investment opportunities that will bring prosperity, security and general well-being to both countries," the Sultan said.

According to Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik Al Said, the visit reaffirms both countries' commitment to deepening bilateral relations, which have recorded progress in the economic, investment and business spheres. The Sultan added that he was accompanied by the ministers responsible for the sectors covered by the signed instruments, who "are eager to explore further cooperation opportunities."

The Sultan also expressed the expectation that Angola and Oman would significantly increase trade volumes in the coming years, noting that current levels do not yet reflect the scale of the economic partnership. He also expressed optimism regarding the strengthening of ties in the oil, mining, food security, maritime transport and aviation sectors, among others.

Among the instruments signed is a mutual visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports. The two governments also signed a cooperation agreement and its accompanying executive programme, as well as memoranda covering political consultations, diplomatic studies and training, investment promotion and air transport.

An agreement to eliminate double taxation on income and prevent tax evasion and avoidance was also signed, along with other instruments. According to Angola's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the documents expand the institutional framework for cooperation between the two states, with particular emphasis on the economic, financial, commercial and investment domains.
