Angola And Namibia Review Status of Energy Cooperation Projects

Strengthening energy cooperation between Angola and Namibia dominated Monday’s meeting between Angolan Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges and Namibian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy Modestus Tshitumbe Amutse.

The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Water, also marked the official presentation of the Namibian minister to the Angolan government, following his recent appointment to the post.

During the talks, the delegations reviewed the main joint energy projects underway between the two countries, with emphasis on the future electrical interconnection between their respective national systems.

The initiative should enable the exchange and commercialization of electricity between the two nations, through a purchase and sale agreement currently being prepared.

Another topic discussed was the progress of the Baynes Binational Hydroelectric Project, planned for the Cunene River. The infrastructure is seen as strategic for the joint use of water resources and for increasing energy production capacity in the region.
