The governments of Angola and Japan signed this Wednesday, 9 August, in Luanda, the agreement for the liberalisation, promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, which had been under negotiation for almost ten years.
According to Lusa, the agreement was signed as part of a three-day visit to Angola by the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Nishimura Yasutoshi. The Japanese minister, who is accompanied by a delegation of 26 businessmen from various sectors, was received by the President of Angola, João Lourenço.
Speaking to the media, the Japanese minister stressed that this agreement was signed following the visit that the Angolan head of state made in March this year to the Japanese country, stressing that there is notable cooperation between the two countries in the areas of infrastructure, namely the port of Namibe and staff training.
Mr Nishimura Yasutoshi said he hoped the agreement would indeed stimulate Japanese investment in the African country, towards its goal of diversifying its economy.
For his part, Angola’s Foreign Minister Téte António emphasised that João Lourenço’s visit to Japan had fostered a climate of trust with the Japanese authorities and business circles.
