Zimbabwe: ZESA Confirms Nationwide Blackout Caused by “Technical Failure”

Zimbabwe’s state-owned electricity company (ZESA) reported that the country was hit by a nationwide blackout on Monday night (6), stating that a technical failure in its grid caused the power outage.

According to Reuters, ZESA indicated that its technical teams are investigating the cause of the malfunction.

Zimbabweans have long been accustomed to power outages, exacerbated by aging equipment at power plants and a shortage of foreign currency, which prevents authorities from paying for electricity imports.

The company added that its engineers are working to restore stability to the power grid and that it will release further updates as the process of restoring power progresses.
