Zimbabwe is preparing for the 2025 Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON), scheduled for September. The event is being organized by the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with various partner entities. The main objective of the conference is to provide a solid and inclusive platform for public policy dialogue.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the conference will explore macroeconomic and sectoral policy strategies aimed at the country’s comprehensive economic transformation, while taking into account the constantly evolving global context. The initiative seeks to position Zimbabwe to face new challenges and opportunities in the global economy.
ZEDCON 2025 is expected to bring together a wide range of national and international participants, including researchers, academics, development partners, businesses, economic think tanks, and representative organizations, who will gather to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and discuss best practices.
The event agenda is structured around seven key thematic pillars:
- Macroeconomic growth and stability
- The informal sector
- Resource mobilization
- Infrastructure development
- Technology
- Digitalization
- Artificial Intelligence
Other topics on the agenda include diaspora investment, regional integration, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
According to the Ministry, ZEDCON is viewed as a strategic platform to align academic knowledge with national policy. This alignment is seen as essential to achieving the country’s Vision 2030 and supporting long-term economic development. The conference is also expected to serve as a catalyst for strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors, promoting practical solutions that address Zimbabwe’s priorities and the aspirations of its citizens.
