Zimbabwe surpassed its gold production target for 2025 after deliveries to Fidelity Gold Refinery (FGR), the state refinery responsible for purchasing and refining gold produced in the country, reached 46.7 tons, driven mainly by small-scale mining.
According to data released by the news portal The Herald, the country exceeded the government target of 40 tons by 31 December 2025, closing the year with a strong “December rush” of nearly five tons.
The record performance was supported by a significant increase in small-scale mining activity, which accounted for 75% of total gold production throughout the year.
During the period under review, artisanal and small-scale miners delivered 34.9 tons, vastly surpassing the contribution of large-scale mines.
In contrast, large-scale mining operations delivered 11.8 tons, highlighting the growing predominance of the artisanal sector in the country’s gold production.
With this result, Zimbabwe closed 2025 above the government’s target, confirming the decisive role of small-scale mining in total gold deliveries to the state refinery.
